Herne Bay Swimming Club had a bumper weekend at the Canterbury Spring Open on 28th and 29th March.  The club took at team of 40 swimmers aged 9 to 19 to this gala to race in 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m events. 

There was some amazing performances and the team came away with 31 gold medals, 31 silver medals and 24 bronze medals with 18 of the swimmers winning multiple medals.  Stand out performances came from 10 year old Oliver Edwards who won 7 golds and 4 silvers, 10 year old Rose Douglas Sutton who won 5 golds,. 3 silvers and a bronze, 15 year old Samantha Goodwin who won 5 golds and 2 silvers, 16 year old Josh Dunk who won 4 Golds, 11 year old Charley Langford who won 3 golds and one silver and 17 year old Jordan Butler who won 2 golds. Other medalists were Connor Reynolds, Dominic Matthews, Ethan Bexley, Owen Hayes, Owen Head, Thomas House, Nathan Packman, Ethan Sales, Emmett Holdsworth, Jackson Lewis, Jake Alberga, Freddie Wright, Tilly Compton, Ella Kimble, Scarlett Langford, Evie Slater and Keira Twyman.

Competing in her first gala 9 year old Evie Slater won a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke and achieved fantastic new personal best times in 3 other events.  Also representing Herne Bay for the first time were Oliver Emery, Molly Barrett, Tamzin Mullins, Isabel Atkins, Joseph Hayle and Luka Scannell.

The club is now looking forward to senior swimmers competing in the South East Regional Championships and development swimmers competing at the East Invicta Gala in May.
