Herne Bay Swimming Club had a very successful day at the Thanet Junior Development gala on Saturday 7th February, bringing home 74 medals - 38 of which were gold.

This was a gala for 9 to 14 years olds and was a debut club gala for 9 year olds Keira Baker, Grace Head, Keira Twyman, Rory Day, Laurence Frattaroli, Freddie Evans, Daniel Brown and 10 year olds Ruby Hill and Zach Mills.

There were some amazing personal performances - 9 year old Niall Beaumont won 6 Golds and 1 Silver medal and smashed two club records. 12 year old Thomas House - 5 Golds, 2 Silvers, 14 year old Ethan Bexley - 5 Golds, 2 Silvers, 11 year old Lewis Douglas - 5 Golds, 1 Silver, 12 year old Lacey Compton - 4 Golds, 3 Silvers, 13 year old Imogen Douglas - 3 Golds, 2 Silvers, 1 Bronze, 9 year old Scarlett Langford - 2 Golds, 3 Silvers,1 Bronze, 10 year old Ellie Buchanan 1 Gold, 4 Silver,1 Bronze, 10 year old Emmett Holdsworth 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 14 year old Bella Carmen-  2 Gold, 2 Silver, 12 year old Benjamin Wright - 1 gold.  Other medalists were Nathan Packman (4), Isabel Barrett (3), Ruby Cunningham (2), Ethan Sales (2) Ollie Carmen (1) Ella Kimble (1), Emily Burne (1) and Georgina Andrews (1).

The day also included a fun 'Skins' event for the 6 fastest boy and girl swimmers in 3 combined age groups - this was a knock out with 6 swimmers racing 50m sprints with the slowest knocked out each time until there is one winner.  In the 9/10 Ellie Buchanan and Scarlett Langford took 1st and 2nd respectively while Emmett Holdsworth and Niall Beaumont were 2nd and 3rd.  In the 11/12 age Lacey Compton and Isabel Barrett were 2nd and 5th while Thomas House, Lewis Douglas, Nathan Packman, Jules Manser and Ollie Carmen dominated the event finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th.  In the 13/14 age group Bella Carmen and Imogen Douglas finished 4th and 6th while Ethan Bexley triumphed in 1st place. 

The day finished with a Front Crawl Squadron relay and the Herne Bay A team took first place ahead of 2 Thanet Swim club teams, while the Herne Bay B team were narrowly beaten into 4th place.

HBSC are now looking forward to 31 of their Senior squad competing the in Kent County Championships later this month.
